From 2005 to 2007 he was a Vice Speaker of the DFG Collaborative Research Center 603 Modeling and Analysis of Complex Scenes and Sensor Data. He has authored more than 200 journal and conference papers and has over 50 patents granted and patent applications published. His current research interests include image and video signal processing, coding of images, video, and multiview data, as well as multimedia communication.

André Kaup is a Voting Member of the IEEE Communications Society Multimedia Communications Technical Committee, member of the German ITG, and Fellow of the IEEE. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology and was a Guest Editor for the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing. He was elected Siemens Inventor of the year 1998 and was the recipient of the 1999 ITG Award. He received Best Paper Awards at the IEEE International Workshops on Multimedia Signal Processing in 2009, 2011, and 2012, and the International Workshop on Image Analysis for Multimedia Interactive Services in 2010.
